The timeXtender process
The diagram illustrates how you extract and consolidate data, and build data cubes with timeXtender.

The first step is the creation of one or more business units to consolidate data from all the different data sources. Business units represent separate units within your organization, and each business unit has a staging database where you define business rules, and validate and transform data.
Next, you define selection rules and extract the selected data from the multiple data sources scattered throughout you organization. timeXtender connects to most ERP and CRM systems, major commercial databases, MS Excel files, and text files.
Cleansed data is loaded into the data warehouse. You can add additional transformation and validation rules to consolidate data from several business units in one data warehouse. It is also possible to have multiple data warehouses.
timeXtender generates OLAP cubes from the cleansed data. OLAP cubes enable you to slice and dice your data across multiple dimensions. The final output is viewed with your front-end application of choice, for example, in the form of pivot tables and pie charts.
